A game with my friends about a plague outbreak, with a twist at the end
A game with my friends about a plague outbreak, with a twist at the end
Dev log 9: LAST MINUTE JUST KNOW I ADDED ALL THE TEXTURE AND STUFF
Dev log 8: Epileptic Warning: just in case. As you can see I’m still doing the walls but right now im starting to finish up all the levels i have around 5 more to go and i have to still add a controls cutscene before the game loads in and add more to the menu setting since it has nothing. I still need some sprites from my friends for the NPC’s but i should be able to submit it in time. I am also almost at 3k lines and it’s been a long journey using SDL3.
Dev Log 7: Epileptic Warning, it’s very short it might not even be in the video but just in case. It’s been a while since I’ve been doing school but I’ve completed the Save stuff, added transitions between levels, added the first room, working on the first cutscene (as you can see from the NPC going to the player), and just starting to get a good rough draft and getting more sprites in. I should be able to get it done in time, just need sprites but the coding part shouldn’t take much longer.
Dev Log 6, Epileptic warning since the video does have a quick white flash! finished all the credits and stuff and finally in the home stretch of having most of the game features done, now I’m working on the save where I’m using C++ to create a txt file and having it read it in the beginning to see if there is a save and to load it in, might add an option to not load it if the user chooses to but that’s for later because this is definitely the more difficult side of the project since my code is a mess rn. And adding a flashing feature which will be important to the game play
Dev Log 5 starting to finish up all of the UI stuff and credits, right now struggling with the credits at the end cause when you go back to the menu and try to load up the game again, it just loads up the credit probably has to do with the playerState or just gameState in general
Dev Log 4 i finished the dialog system (after way too much time and headaches) I basically assign a specific value to each NPC and depending on that ID it loads a characters dialog, I also decided to hardcode the dialog instead of making a vector or more complex system since I couldn’t find much information about it and I just kept going in circles. Now I’m working on the title screen which is also causing some headaches, as you can see at the end there is coords to track the mouse but im trying to find a way to keep the coords if the player wants to resize the window which is more complicated than i thought it was going to be.
Devlog 3, I started on the dialog feature of my game, as you can see the little red stand in guy is the NPC, I’m pretty happy with the dialog box and will just have to create a struct for all the NPC’s in the game and their corresponding dialog, the player is also stuck until the they press next which I am still working on but for right now they can’t move and I’m pretty happy with the results.
Devlog 2, I have finished all the movement and finally have the recording, I built the tiles and camera panning still using my old game as a reference with some different variables. After this I’m going to learn how to make levels and such since I’ve only made a platformer game with one level, so it’s going to be a new experience (waiting for my friend to send the sprite so im using templates rn)
DevLog 1, I’ve made my sprite on a window, and it can move around, I’ve been using my first game that I programmed as a template (that I got from YouTube) to get the movement but after getting the animations done, most of it will be me just exploring SDL3 and seeing how to create a top-down game ( also if anyone knows how to draw better sprites pls reach out, the sprite is most likely not going to be permanent)
