WebOS Devlog 8 ✨

Work Done:

  • Added interactivity to the Cherry Terminal by implementing functional commands.
  • Improved the overall user experience by making the terminal draggable across the desktop.
  • Fixed multiple bugs affecting window behavior and terminal functionality.

Challenges:

  • Faced issues with JavaScript event handling while implementing the drag feature.
  • Spent time debugging conflicting event listeners and ensuring all terminal features worked together smoothly.

WebOS Devlog 6 ✨

Work Done:

  • Completed the visual design and structure of the Cherry Terminal.

  • Styled the terminal window to align with the overall WebOS aesthetic.

  • Added design elements such as a custom header, window controls, and terminal prompt.

  • JavaScript functionality is currently in progress; the next step is implementing interactive commands and terminal behaviour.

  • Planning additional visual enhancements and animations to make the terminal feel more polished and immersive.

Challenges:

  • Designing a terminal that matched the soft cherry aesthetic of the WebOS while still looking like a functional terminal.
  • Balancing visual appeal with usability to ensure the interface remained clean and easy to navigate.

Progress:

  • Finalized the overall layout of the Cherry Terminal window.
  • Designed a soft cherry-themed interface with a pastel header and dark terminal workspace for better contrast.
  • Chose a clean monospace font and refined the colour palette to maintain consistency with the desktop design.
  • Planned the command input area and overall user interface for an interactive terminal experience. 🫶🏻

WebOS Devlog 5 💫

Work Done:

  • Removed the concept of large app cards from the design.
  • Redesigned the navigation flow so apps will launch directly from the home screen dock.
  • Researched cherry-inspired dock designs and began planning the implementation for the next development session.

Challenges:

  • The apps section looked disconnected from the home screen, making the overall UI feel inconsistent.
  • Needed to redesign the layout without losing the existing app functionality.

Progress:

  • Decided to replace the separate apps section with a floating dock integrated into the home page.
  • Finalized the list of apps for the dock: Personal Info, Terminal, Pixel Colour, Music, Calculator, Screentime, and Notetaker.
  • Planned a cherry-inspired dock to create a more cohesive desktop experience.

Debugging My WebOS Project

  • Today I continued working on my WebOS project and focused mainly on debugging and identifying issues in the current build.

Work Done:

  • Tested the project to understand which features were working and which ones were causing problems.
  • Started using browser developer tools to inspect the project and look for possible errors.
  • Checked the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript structure since the entire project is currently contained in a single file.
  • Investigated issues with app interactions and screens not opening as expected.
  • Began tracing possible JavaScript problems related to buttons, events, and element connections.

Challenges:

  • Some features are still not responding correctly, and I am still working to locate the exact cause.
  • Debugging a large single-file project makes it harder to locate specific issues quickly.
  • Understanding browser console errors and developer tools is taking time, but it is helping narrow down the problems.

Next Steps:

  • Continue analyzing JavaScript errors and fixing broken interactions.
  • Test each application and feature separately.
Improve the project structure to make future debugging easier.

The project is still under development, but each debugging session is helping me understand the system better and move closer to a stable version.

Ship #2

I made a Cherry-inspired WebOS. I have always loved cherries so I thought why not make it a lil my way? I had shipped this project before however a few apps were not working very well so I thought of making some more changes. I am an absolute newbie so I am pretty sure there must be more faults but I have tried my best and I hope you guys like it! :D
