We’ve been continuing to add more rooms, such as this long coral room. (Unfortunately, the tube coral sprites are a little broken right now and look like they are on the ceiling… ) Now there’s only 2 rooms left to add for world 1!! 🎉 🎉
We also worked on finishing up the sea bunny miniboss (still not working right now) and making cutscene animations like this one in the boba room ⬇️. They’re actually so silly and fun to make 😆 so you better watch the video (if you want to)
As always, @kimeowsu made the art, and @Jewelia added plenty of new updates too!
We created a minigame where you collect fish within a time limit to get coins! You have to be careful, though, because if you get too close, you can get hit by them. @Jewelia also started making a menu to show the controls and inventory. Additionally, we’re continuing to add new rooms and dialogue scenes!
Dialogue and Story!! We’ve started to add the plot in the form of dialogue to our game, which we have decided to name Boba Cats! In order to get their ship fixed, the player must find brown sugar boba…but at what cost?
We got the underwater city art in by @kimeowsu!! Doesn’t it look amazing? 😍 I worked on the scene changes, which allow the player to go back and forth between rooms. Tell me why forwards scene changes took like 10 minutes and backwards took 2 and a half hours… at least it finally works!! 🥳 😅 🐈
Sorry it’s been a while… @Jewelia, @kimeowsu, and I have been adding a lot of new rooms to the underwater section of the game, like this submarine workshop and this cave room! We also added screen transitions and a way to enter and exit buildings. Now, we are beginning to add in the dialogue!
The first world of our game may be done very, very soon! (Maybe even soon enough for a free sticker? ) Until next time!
@Jewelia and I started making the dialogue system! The only issue is that the font is blurry. I thought I fixed it… but no… 😔 Maybe it will work better with a more pixelated font. 🤔
Actually I think half of the time I spent was just importing sprites 😅 @kimeowsu has been doing a ton of pixel art! 🔥🔥🔥We also added a big jellyfish! kimeowsu says it’s based on the Sea Nettle :0
Anyway sorry the video is so chaotic 👻😆
We’ve moved on to ✨THE BIG BAD BOSS✨ of our underwater level: The SEA BUNNY. @graceyd and I worked on coding the bunny @kimeowsu drew. It can shoot bullets from its fur and launch a mad dash attack you can try to dodge! Who knew bunnies were so dangerous and…huge? 🫠 🧨 🐰
@kimeowsu brought us some lovely art for this box room! There’s a big jellyfish at the top that hurts you if you go near…
We also added a parallax effect, so the different layers of the background move at different speeds! (It’s most noticeable in the rocks at the top.)
We got art for the cave the player will enter after passing the underwater level!! 🥳 @graceyd and I worked on coding a flashlight that will grow a vine to allow the player to climb it and reach the cliff! Enjoy the video 😊
Flashlight system!! ✨
We added darkness and a flashlight system, which will be used in certain rooms of the game!
(and the code for this worked first try?!? OK more like second try but still 🤯)
Right now the flashlight can follow where your mouse pointer is!
Also, @Jewelia did some magic and fixed the camera so it looks great now! 😄
Updates: We got some art by @graceyd’s sister imported in! We’ve a few steps closer to creating an actual 2D scrolling game with the implementation of a camera to follow the player and factors in the environment (like fish and coral tubes!) that damage the player’s health.
Video’s a bit laggy because my computer decided to be slow today XD but hope you enjoy!! Will bring more updates soon :D
WE HAVE ART!! 🥳 @kimeowsu helped make some amazing art for the game! Doesn’t it look great?
Aside from that, @Jewelia and I added a health and hitbox system. She also added walls and floors.
Now we need to adjust the camera because, well, the game isn’t fully on screen. 😅
I’m making an adventure game with an underwater area! 🌊🐟🦀🪸🐈🐳😄🆒😆👾‼️‼️Ok sorry for all the emojis 😔
Anyway I made a tube coral that pulls the player down when they swim above it! @Jewelia helped make it so that they turn on and off every two seconds using a timer! (Her hours are logged separately) It works now except for some reason the coral in the middle doesn’t want to cooperate!! It turns on at a different time then the others for some reason and doesn’t pull the player when it’s supposed to! IDK why this is happening they should all be the same
Once we figure out how to fix that, the next step is to make it so that if you get pulled too close to the bottom, you take damage. and at some point add the art graphics!
