Hey guys, soo since the dashboard invite link reroutes users to /onboarding, it doesnt return a code 200 “ok”.
So please use this link instead: https://stlvexapp.guanine.org/join/b93d07e1-b1a8-467e-81fb-d3f36dcff0b7
But anyways, the point of this project wasn’t to build something beautiful, fun, or exciting. Compared to the other things people are building (I saw some awesome spider bots and rocket ship CADs), my project is pretty lame.
Why did I build it? Well, around 4 months ago, I noticed some major bottlenecks in my school’s Robotics organization. Our calendar was on a google doc with only a single page, fragmented communications, field elements getting lost, first year members constantly asking for support, and nobody on any of the 6 teams had any idea what they were supposed to do
Therefore, I set out to build a solution and I learned SO MUCH along the way!
My VEX internal dashboard has taught me so much about backend design such as:
- rate-limiting
- throttling
- oAuth flows
- SQL databases & normalization
- database annotations
- monorepos
- prefetching & async fetching
- image preloading
- GIT!!!!!
It was such an amazing journey and it has helped me build a portfolio of projects that actually show that I CAN engineer real apps that hold up against heavy user traffic. (AI WILL NEVER REPLACE ME)
The result: I’ve used this app as a my FRONTIER project is SO MANY applications to organizer positions at JamHacks, IgnitionHacks, EurekaHacks, etc…
And… Now I work as a backend engineer for THREE HACKATHONS!!!
I’m so happy and I know that this may not be the most EXCITING of projects but if you could please support me and my future endeavours thanks :)
