submission pending identity verification… which i have some things to say about… but ill hold my tongue.
the thing has firmware now. MAN qmk is a headache to get started with, but now that i have something working maybe itll kinda work. submission soon hopefully. i wanna make the most of this long weekend. (actual work was longer than 27 mins, but the hackatime i tried to do was over-representative of the work done, so i decided to not include it)
woah, a case!! (some of this didnt get lapsed)
so this case is gonna be pretty simple i think, as long as its within the rules i dont wanna complete the top until i have all the parts, if i complete it at all. most likely the case will stay open top, because theres a lot of small gaps to work around and itd look a bit crap. the board is mounted on the two screw-holes, and i plan to put some kind of foam in the gap underneath, for stability’s sake. there is also a “turntable”. its designed like that so it can be out of the way of the keys, but still be an adequate size. after finalizing the stability of the turntable, onto firmware!!
OMG OMG OMG
finally at the modeling stage. did some work yesterday but didnt remember to lapse it. this is THE final design, i have decided. added a small silkscreen and mounting holes (m3). added 3c models to kicad, to aid in 3d modeling. attempted to use fusion but it said my graphics driver needed to be updated, which i dont have time for rn. made a very simple box in onshape, to hold the pcb.
design going into modeling (this is mostly so i remember). id like to have the top exposed above the xiao, if i can print it id like a translucent portion above the leds, unsure about the screen. the scratch wheel is going to be a bit hard, as its quite close and (assuming a consistent diameter) will be 2 cm across (not good). my planned solution for this is to have half of it be short (to not interfere with the keys), and the other half be a suitable size (and hanging off the board)
Beatmania (or similar staggered-key rhythm game) hackpad! In the end, this will have 7 (maybe 12) keys, staggered like that of a piano. a small turntable (a la beatmania). a screen mirroring the secondary lcd screen of early beatmania IIDX cabinets. and lights, if i still have energy by then. space allowing i may use the leftover keys and encoder as a seperate macropad section. this would be to avoid layers in the firmware, keeping it less complicated. image is of a very bad keyboard matrix test.
