A game the revolves around cars racing around a race track. A simple yet entertaining game that is inspired by Formula 1

Ship #1

I made a car racing game that essentially was inspired by F1. The code based is done in python and then in order to deploy it onto the web I used something called pygbag. The entire point of the game is that you have to navigate through the course’s loops and turns in order to beat the computer car in a race. There are a variety of difficulty options for you to select, as well as a settings menu so that you can change your own speed and wall bounciness. I learned a lot about debugging during this process because as I was trying to deploy to to both local host and github pages there were many errors that prevented the game from loading in so I had to try to analyze all the console errors and correct them. I really love the game that I made and I feel like I’ve learned a lot from building this game. I hope you guys enjoy it as well!

The rest of the time spent on Racer was trying to get it deployed onto my localhost first through pygbag. It took a long time just trying to debug everything because pygbag deployment is harder than hosting python through python’s own application. I had to do a lot of async def through my functions in order to bypass some restrictions and have the game work. Also, I had to make the deploy.yml file in order for github to execute the workflow to deploy my page to github and the actual web.

So throughout the 3 hours I worked on just heavily developing all aspects of the racing game. First I implemented different levels, more specifically 3 levels each with a different speed that the computer car would drive to. Then there is also a settings option where the user can adjust their own speed for their car and also the bouciness of the wall when hit. A lap counter and also a lap timer was added as a HUD at the top left of the screen when you are racing, and also I implemented basically a sort of countdown mechanism to start off each seperate game. The entire game is coming together and the next steps is trying to deploy it through the web with pygbag.

I have been fixing the computer path tracing and adjusting it because a lot of times they go off the loop and cut corners of the race track. The red dots below (left image) show me trying to conduct coordinate testing for the path following of the computer car. Then, after the car path was working for the computer car, I went to make the end screens for when you win or lose in the game. I was also thinking of implementing varios different levels, which I might do in my next session.

Now for the car game I started to add the opponent cars and was working on the components and trying to see how they would actually move. I was also trying to implement a click to move feature for the player car, as well as kind of reducing the bouce when hitting the side of the track.

Today I started a new racing game and start to set up the base environment and the map for the game. This was relatively easy to set up and get started. There were just a some simple debugging in order to fix some few case sensitive errors. Tomorrow, I will probably start working on implementing the race car mechanism and the entire working game.
