Hey wal,
Awesome project! I'd love to see what you make in the future!

Shipwright walkthrough
holy hell it was harder than i expected but i made it.
so i added stars, cool buttons, cool font, and allat. I am really proud of this work, because it looks really cool now
now this one is so cool, i really like how it turned out and it was pretty easy to make it. But i was honestly so tired at that point that i just wrote the first stuff that came into my mind. but i still think it turned out cool.
Now, for debugging, and just for sole purpose of a user, i added warnings, so when celestrack is not fetching because of extended use or its own problems (like with starlink sometimes) it just warns u and skips it. If you have reached your IP request limit to celestrack, then you will just have a longer running of loading screen and a message that you can see on the photo. (i have it because i have refreshed the page too much)
Now in this devlog i want to also sum up how i used ai. So the sole purpose of his project was for me to learn JS, and this project was really hard for me, so i used AI of course. Mainly i used it so it gave me the general idea of the code that i should have for my ideas, and then i changed it and shaped it so that it turned out the way it did now. Also it helped me with complex tasks, like visible satellites and all the complex stuff, and, of course, debugging. But i still did it myself, and apart from doing this i was also doing a 12 hour course on JS by BroCode, shoutout to him btw!
Well, this project was cool but waaaay harder than i expected, thats why i had to use ai. This will definitely help me in my further projects, and i am really proud of the final version. This taught me a lot, and i shure am happy to continue my journey as an engineer (i wanna be a hardware one, but for stardance its just way easier to star with software for me, so might as well learn programming too.). This is also my final project for stardance, and i am really happy.
Thank you to everyone who supported me on this project, 100+ views consistently is crazy!
You can now see, which ones you can actually see, and which ones are blocked by earth shadow and allat. All passes ore just 0 degrees above the horizon, and visible ones are:
basically the satellites that u can see already. Since those satellites are already in right time above the horizon, we dont have to wait for them, i just divide all satellites in 2 groups, where one is ones over u, and others are the ones we have to wait for, using arleadyup - true or false
DAMNNNN I LOVE THIS FEATURE and also it shows a path.
Now, when the server answers with 403 error, for example starlink that i have some problems with, programm just skips it.
Self explainatory
The most important one: i might delete the starlink satellites. They just dont appear most of the time because of the server, so better drop tham so i didnt have any problems when i ship the project.
Apart from that, i the only thing thats left is to add that cool style i wanted hell yeah.
JS is still pretty hard for me, so for this i had to use AI to help me out. But i still manage to understand almost everything from the code, so i hope its ok :)
This was really tough for me to understand for the code, so for you i will make it easier.
Basically, i have 2 libraries, my satellite.js, that is responsible, you guessed it, for satellites and all the info about it, and d3-geo, which is a 3d earth. When you click on the globe, the programm checks if its land or water, because i wanted it to only check satellites on land. How does it do it? Using world - atlas, that has all the coordinates of the land on the earth. If its land, then the programm for every satellite looks its way for every 30 seconds on a period of 24 hours and looks, when its going to be seen on your horizon (must be 40 degrees because of all the trees and buildings). It memorizes the first and last moment above the 40 degree mark on horizon and then it gives the results seen on the screenshot, sorted with time.
So for now it just spits out the info about sattelites, but maybe you have an idea how to make it more visual? i have no idea for now, because i dont want it to be just 60 red dots and everuthing around the point you selected. One idea i had is if you pick any sattelite of the given ones, it shows its path, but it sounds hard as hell, i may use ai again to help me…
IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ABOUT MY PROJECT PLEASE MENTION THEM! I WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO IMPLIMENT IDEAS I LIKED!!! Of course, mentioning the suggestor.
Im planningin the end to add that old 90s nasa computer green/black vibe, i really am stoked to see how it will turn out.
Thanks! Sorry for not devlogging earlier, was locked in on finishing the whole page
##Okay, so for the progress i ve made:
So now its not 1, but around 50 or 60, im not shure really. Now there are different kinds of them:
-habitated ones, like ISS, Tiangong and so on, and i didnt make a limit on them because theyre the most valuable and recognisable.
-CelesTrak, the brightest ones you can clearly see in the sky
-GPS satellites
-Starlink, but only around 20
-weather ones, like NOAA and GOES
In the future i want to make it so that you could pick only a specific group.
I believe i didnt do this on my previous devlog, anyway, i just show the line that it follows in the period of 90 mins. It goes +- 1 time around the globe, so you could see lol.
yeah!
###1 . Connected satellite (ISS) info from celestrak. org
This basically grabs the info, like name and coordinates
Im only learning JS, so i am currently using Claude to navigate me through the whole process and help me with the code, but i try to understand it very hard and i do learn!
