Hey everyone! For this project, I built an FTC Simulator to make testing autonomous paths and robot setups way less stressful during the season.

It’s got a 2D PedroPathVisualizer mode where you can plot points with bezier curves and watch your bot move along them, plus a 3D simulation mode for dropping in robot CAD models (though the 3D view is mostly a placeholder right now since I ran out of time before the deadline!).

Spent way too long debugging weird CSS styling issues along the way, but super happy with how the 2D side turned out. Hope you guys like checking it out! 🚀

FINAL DEVLOG

I have finally finished the aesthetic piece of the site and I have finished the 2D portion. The challenge ends in 2 days so i will be shipping it now. I’m really sad that I couldn’t finish the 3D simulator but I’ve put a placeholder there. I hope you guys like it!

FTC Simulator Homepage Updates

It seems weird but for the past 14 hours and 40 minutes over the course of around 2 weeks…

I HAVE BEEN DEBUGGING!!!!

It’s was a really stressful and tedious process as there were so many things that just wouldn’t work and in the end I figured out the problem. Drumroll please…

I forgot to link my CSS styling to the html file and I forgot to put the CSS style page into the right folder so none of it worked. Fortunately I got that to work but that wasn’t even the worst part. I attempted to create an animation with the letters so that it would look cool because I used a special font that creates letters with several lines. I wanted the lines to all come in at different times like they were individually being drawn but that didn’t work after hours of trial and error so I had to settle with a regular cursive fade in animation and I gotta say it doesn’t look that bad so I’m probably gonna stick with it!

Devlog #1: Downloads & Base Code

For the past couple days (about a week), I started on a simulation site for the FIRST Tech Challenge Competition. I am creating this simulation to make coding easier and more effective to test during the season.

PEDROPATHING (MODE #1)

So this is the PedroPath Mode and essentially it’s a 2D simulation where the user can plot points and tell the sim how to rotate the bot. In real life this happens through mecanum wheel usage. Once the points are plotted you can see your bot in action and the code will be generated to achieve this in real life.

I have successfully completed the base code for this version but I am yet to complete the app.jsx file. Without that file being done the site won’t be functionable and both modes will not work. I am using jsx to code this because it will be much more efficient since there will be less coding to do rather than having a separate css file.

FTC SIMULATION (MODE #2)

This is the 3D simulation where users can import CAD files of their robot and code the robot. Then they can run this and run trial and error tests on their code. This simulation also will support the usage of FTC competition approved controllers such as a PS4 controller.

The base code for the 3D simulation is complete
and once the app.jsx code is finished I can finally start testing it on the local server on VS Code.
