web based OS inspired by the Frutiger Aero aesthetic during 10s
web based OS inspired by the Frutiger Aero aesthetic during 10s
This is going to be the final devlog before finally shipping this thing, its been great and i learnt a lot especially how to actually get div where i want it😭
Since ast devlog i added some cool new desktop behaviour, web browser and boot animation, you can check it out all in the final video…
I finally made the most fun part, games yall. Its basically a parody of xbox, i know some of the games are newer and not from the frutiger era but it still fun to mess around with. The games are saved as .swf files and run through ruffle.
For the past couple weeks i havent made much progress since i have been busy with life n stuff, but atleast i managed to make another music player skin. I feel like this one really fits with the whole aquatic/frutiger aero style - what do you think?
Some of the time was also spent on making a new games app - stay tuned, hopefully i can finish this in time😭😭
As always, you can try the live demo on the github linked under the project or here - https://github.com/0ndyy/frutiger-os/tree/main
For the past week i have been working on bringing the og windows media player skins into my os. It was quite a hassle, but eventually i managed to get a modular system working where i can add more skins in the future(stay tuned).
For those who want to know how i pulled this off: there is a website - https://wmpskinsarchive.neocities.org/ with all the og skins in their original .wmz format. As it turns out the .wmz is basically just renamed .zip containing all the assets, although the assets are a mess - there is like 30+ images in .bmp format, some scripts, and magenta masks so you have to manually assemble it in photoshop remove the masks and get it to look good. Then you have to play for a while with your css file to correctly position and scale all of the buttons n stuff and thats it. I dont recommend anyone trying this shi😭
note: the reason some of the songs sound weird is because i used bitmap version not to mess with copyright scanning bots
I kinda forgot that im supposted to posts devlogs here, but long story short a lot new things happen since last devlog.
I created a new logo, you can actually see it in the background, its a knock off of the old windows logo but HEXAGON, because hexagons are the bestagons.
I made(found) a paint app, i actually didnt code the whole thing it uses a cool project called JSPaint, check it out - https://jspaint.app/ Which fits the aesthetic i was going for really well.
Today i created a windows 7 inspired working Control Panel app, you can currently
-change wallpaper
-disable some elements(menubar, taskbar, icons)
I really enjoyed tuning some of the CSS components especially buttons and switches(since i implemented the modular system for the main windows in the last devlog)
Im stil trying to submit my ship for WebOS 1 but they still wont accept it😭🙏. Appparently it looks like every othe AI slop and has no personality, i really dont understand how could they say something like this, anyway wish me luck.
After first failed ship i realised i completelt forgot about me README.md. Im not too sure why its needed since this project cant be voted yet but its good to start earlt righ?
You can check it out here - https://github.com/0ndyy/frutiger-os/blob/main/README.md
My most recent addition was the taskbar, its heavily inspired by windows 7 era and i find it kind of sleek, it was actually way easier to implement than i originally thought.
I also created a new settings/control panel app which was pretty quick using the css classes made in last devlog.
If you wanna try it out, its avalible at - https://0ndyy.github.io/frutiger-os/
In this devlog i developen my first proper app, its basically a simple notepad, i developed my own system for app creation in css so i can easily add different sizes of windows, sidebars, topbars, buttons exct. and reuse them all.
Its still a little rought around the edges and i might need to start handling the performance issue, since the css blur is pretty resource intensive, but we will see what happens.
I implemented the basic steps from the tutorial, though since i didnt like some of the solutions i designed a lot of things to be more modular and future proof, let the video speak for itself.
Its been quite fun so far, especially playing with the different css elements of the frutiger aesthetic.
