Hi all,
I love designing advanced PCBs for cool devices and electronics and basically anything on a computer, and now I'm also trying to refine my python and coding skills.

Schematics Unofficially Finished!!!

I am sleep deprived

Hi y’all, it’s finally happened! After hours of work, I have 9 pages of electrical schematics for my handheld gaming console, and after depriving my sleep a bit more checking for errors it’ll be ready to move on to the PCB stage!

Here’s an overview of all my features and things:

  • 4GB DDR4
  • Quad Core 2ghz RK3566
  • 7” MIPI-DSI touchscreen
  • Onboard RP2040 for gamepad
  • 2x USB-A ports, 1x USB-C port for charging and debug
  • HDMI port
  • Fan port
  • SD Card slot
  • Overengineered battery and power system
  • Basically full functionality as a desktop computer as well
  • UART debug header and lots of test pads

Btw I can’t upload more than 4 pictures 😭

I’m really excited for this since this should be able to actually play some games like modded Minecraft, Balatro, PSP/PS1/N64 games, and various others!

What’s next:

  • Checking for errors
  • Assigning footprints
  • Working on the PCB
  • (And eventually designing a case for it)

Added 2x USB-A ports and a few other things

I Used a reliable USB2514B chip as my USB hub to add two USB ports with safe current-limiting TPS2051B chips by texas instruments

I also added a high-speed MUX circuit using the TS3USB221A chip, so now there will be a physical switch to change between chip flashing mode via USB-C and normal USB-A host operation.

  • Also fixed the Compute Module’s power input
  • Did a few other things that my sleep-deprived ahh can’t remember

What’s Next:

Adding a 7” Touchscreen to the handheld!

Fixed power management issues and made custom connectors for the compute module

Gaming Handheld Devlog #2

Hi y’all!

This is the third day of working on my gaming handheld, and I’ve made a lot of big changes and fixes:

  • This time actually finished the power management part, with a brand new 3.3v buck convertor, and some other miner fixes
  • Made custom symbols for the RPi CM4 connectors, and wired up most of their power
  • Added the SD Card global labels

Whats Next:

  • Adding a high-speed USB MUX
  • Adding a MASKROM Recovery Switch Circuit

Final Release: Custom Logo & Standalone .dmg Installer!

The project is officially complete, packaged and ready to ship.

  • Generated native Apple .icns retina assetsusing macOS sips and iconutil.
-Standalone Binary Bundle: Compiled the Python runtime, rumps engine, and PyObjC framework using PyInstaller with LSUIElement daemon configuration (LSUIElement makes it a purely menu bar-only app)
-Standard .dmg Installer: Packaged the .app into a compressed disk image linked to /Applications via hdiutil.
-Uploaded HackatimeBar.dmg to GitHub releases so anyone including you can download and install the app like any other app
-You can download the app from my profile now!

Happy Hacking!

Custom goal dialog box, calibrated Stardust estimate, and GitHub release

Devlog #3

Major UX Upgrades:

  • The Stardust estimate is now more accurate and reflects the average 10x multiplier
  • You can now manually set your daily coding goal (hours) and the progress bar will automatically adapt to reflect it

What’s next:

I am planning on turning this app into a fully offline, standalone .dmg installer which anyone can run on their mac!

(If you’re interested in using this feel free to check out the github or drop an email or dm)

First Working Build! (Log #2)

Native macOS menu bar UI app with live polling for tracking coding hours and estimated stardust

This simple and easy-to-use app made with rumps and PyObjC tracks your coding hours and estimated stardust in real time, with automatic live polling every 120 seconds, along with a bar that shows your progress towards your daily coding goal per day.

You can also refresh it instantly if you wish by simply clicking Refresh Now.

Next Up:

I plan on adding an entry box to set your daily coding goal, and I will also add a 10x multiplier to the estimated stardust to make it as accurate as possible.

Please DM me if you think you might be interested in using this!

Setting up Python engine & handling Hackatime local config

Worked on the Hackatime macOS Menu Bar Widget!

This morning I finished creating the basic skeleton for this project by setting up the project environment using Python3 and creating the basic data tracking engine (tracker.py).

The code tries to read local credentials from ~/.wakatime.cfg in order to be able to connect to the statusbar API of Hackatime. Error handling for a non-existent config file and parsing for total coding time, active projects and languages done. Next step would be to get the actual API key working and design the actual menu bar application using rumps.
