One-liner: I kept missing launches and solar storms, so I built one page that
tracks all of it and lets me poke at it from Slack, Discord, my terminal, a
desktop window, or the web.

What it is: every front-end (web, Slack, Discord, CLI, desktop) just calls
one get_events(). All the fetching and filtering live in one place, and
everything else is basically a renderer. Live demo is deployed, so just click.

In the bot’s chat: !space weather, !space list probe_launch --limit 5 --name falcon, !space groq what is a coronal mass ejection?

What it does

pulls solar flare / K-index, launches, and flybys into one timeline
same --limit/--name/--after/--before flags in chat, CLI, and the URL
Groq assistant that remembers the conversation (in Slack, Discord, and web)
desktop ping when something big is within the hour, optional webhook
TTL cache so refreshes don’t hammer NOAA, plus a 63-test pytest suite

Nerdy bits: dedup on (title, time); bots share one platform-neutral
response so Slack/Discord never re-implement logic; pages render instantly and
fetch in a side thread; long Groq answers get clamped so a big reply can’t fail
to send.

Devlog 3: Spacer

hey there, kinda caught up with exams, but I did get some hours in with this thing, and this is going to be the last devlog until ship (YAAYYYY), so here a few design decisions and some cool stuff

WE GOT A LINK

After trying to configure my nest container for like, 5 years, i finally got a link to use here it is, and the website is kinda AI generated (had to fit it in the schedule, thought the thing was gonna end on Sept 30 but now it is ending on Oct 31), but all in all, it was a good thing experimenting and learning about how people actually host websites

We finally got slack and discord working

so, after some tinkering (and some help form opencode) we finally got discord and slack channels for the bot to work in, just use !space in the slack and the discord channel, the links are on the website.

we are removing the slack bot mission form this project

since i want people to actually see this and say if it is good or not, i am removing the slack bot mission from my project, but at least you can see the website and the discord bot

Devlog 2: Spacer

hey there, didn’t post for a long time, since i was focused on making Kerbal Gravity Program (check it out) so I didn’t have time for this, but now that it is shipped, i can have a little bit of rest and continue on my other projects

for anyone new here, Spacer is a Slack/discord bot (yes i am getting it to discord) that can give you notifications like Rocket launches or CMEs that can destroy stuff, I will also get it into a cli, but that will wait for ship 2

What I did:

Now, I got 3 main things up:

the APIs and the way i am going to make the CLI/Bots
A Nest container
An understanding of Docker (I guess??)

So, what I want is a docker container perpetually running with something like tmux stopping nest from stopping the processes in the container while i exit the nest container (TOOO many containers), but now i am currently fixing stuff with the code and the docker container, well, hope it can be fixed fast

Next steps

Now, I gotta:
1, figure out how to use tmux
2. how to prevent a certificate error that I keep getting no matter what

Devlog 1: Spacer

So, I’m working on Spacer—basically a CLI tool that doubles as a Slack/Discord bot for tracking space-related events.

I didn’t post a devlog sooner because I was stuck in that “why is this not working” phase for way too long. But I finally got it to a point where I can
see real results. I can now push data to webhooks via the CLI, though it was basically just a giant wall of text at first.

Next up: fixing the layout so it actually looks like a professional app and not a terminal dump.
