Brainstorming & Initial Ideas

(time severely undercounted, but oh well)

Idea

DXoIP, or DX (distant communications in ham radio) over Internet Protocol, is an internet-linked auxiliary radio system. For those who don’t have ultra super nerd radio knowledge, it basically means that it links two different areas too far to be linked just by two-way communications on a radio “simplex” over the internet.

Specs

Currently planning and designing for:

  • 5W or 10W generic Kenwood-plug type UHF radios
  • Runs on a low-power microcontroller, in our case, the RP2350A on the Pi Pico 2W(H)
  • Solar powered, 50W panel with a 20000mAh 2S Li-ion (148Wh)
  • Up to 217 hours of standby use
  • Custom UDP RoIP (Radio over IP) software/system (dxoip/roip-udp and /udp-manager)

Proof of Concept

I know, i know, Stardance/HC doesn’t really like vibe coding, but as a PROOF OF CONCEPT, I vibe-coded a generic aux station controller using the custom udp hole-punching and udp packet structure, and proved the system resources as well as technicalities can and will work on smaller / less powerful hardware and my own and the destination’s NATs.

That was the tldr; see https://docs.google.com/document/d/11Y9Bnyi7bjp_gO7qrf80IEtUcSqtOWKsgPkb2HgMhl4/edit?usp=sharing for more

(magnificent drawing, right?)
