PantryPal Go is an AI-powered cooking assistant for Slack. Users can generate recipes, receive meal suggestions, cook with available pantry ingredients, find substitutions, view estimated nutrition from USDA data, get cooking tips, and create cooking memes through slash commands.
I worked on PantryPal Go, an AI-powered cooking assistant for Slack! 🍳
I connected the bot to Gemini so it can generate recipes, meal suggestions, pantry-based dishes, substitutions, and cooking tips without relying on a fixed recipe database.
I also added estimated nutrition using USDA FoodData Central, including calories, macros, vitamins, and minerals.My favorite feature is /pnp-meme. Gemini writes a cooking joke, PantryPal selects a relevant meme template, and Imgflip renders it in Slack. I ran into issues with Gemini’s image quota, stale bot processes, and Slack file uploads, but eventually replaced the unreliable image-generation approach with an Imgflip integration.

also added automated tests, improved error handling, created a PantryPal logo and banner, and wrote the project documentation. Next, I would like to add saved dietary profiles, meal planning, shopping lists, and custom meme templates.
