Blackhole New Tab

What Have I made?

This is Blackhole New Tab, a simple yet very nice new tab extension for Chromium based browsers, it has features like:

A very close (in my opinion) recreation of the “mica” effect from Windows 11
Nice blackhole background
Ability to pin apps on the Windhawk-luminosity inspired taskbar
Basic settings menu with settings for theme and time format

What was challenging?

Honestly the entire project, the Blackhole video was made by me and very hard to perfect, i was touching HTML after a very long time, and had no experience with javascript itself (though it is very similar to other languages i have used) and it is also the reason why I didn’t apply it to the “Give your website a Pulse” mission, because I knew i would take more than 3 hours on this.

What am I proud of?

Well, the background!

This background video was made by me, not in adobe AfterEffects, not in Blender, not in Maya, but in GEOMETRY DASH, yes GEOMETRY DASH, the cube game. It took me 3 hours alone to perfect and it is documented on Lapse, the result? A very clean, Interstellar style Blackhole! I love it!

What do people need to know before testing?

Nothing!

Project has no dependencies, and all info is in the README, also you can also download this extension from the Microsoft Edge Addons store.

OOOHH YES, I finished the update, and fixed the icons issue by adding MORE icon providers (namely Icon horse, AND Unavatar, beside from the google favicon)

I also added some more QOL features:

You can MOVE ICONS ON THE TASKBAR NOW (very quick implementation, so kinda animationless and basic, just drag it!)
A “Show Seconds” setting.

Well now i SHIP

Came back, it got approved!

Tried it myself

Bugs

:(

(see how the extension failed to grab an icon for instagram, so its just a gray box with the letter I in it, my designed fallback, and the youtube logo is like, rlly low res?)

I need to push v 1.1
