Hi soldiers, I made Hogwarts OS, a browser-based desktop operating system inspired by the magical atmosphere of the Harry Potter universe.It includes desktop app icons, a boot/loading experience with Hedwig’s Song, a wizarding-style display font, themed wallpapers, and interactive built-in apps.
The challenging part was making all the different pieces work together without breaking the existing OS — especially integrating boot audio, the loading screen, desktop interactions, wallpapers, and the React/Vite build. I also had to fix a JSX syntax issue that initially caused the Vercel production build to fail.
I’m most proud of turning a normal web OS into something that feels like a complete magical desktop environment rather than just a themed webpage.
People testing it should wait for the boot screen to finish and, if their browser blocks autoplay, interact with the page to enable the boot music. They can then try the desktop icons and built-in apps.
