An app for you to clip and record what has already happened! So you leave it on in the background (and can even lock your phone) and when you want to clip something that someone spoke you can tap on the live activity or go to the app and press capture! Plus you can add effects in-app.

I’m officially done!!! I added the README and uploaded to Testflight! This took around 50% longer than it should have for a few reasons 1) there were a few bugs when I tested on my dad’s iphone compared to my phone 2) app store connect was being finnicky regarding the rules… But now I’m done and very very happy with the result!
I’m now officially done with the app! I added an onboarding flow so the app can prompt for mic perms… I also added a dark mode cos I didn’t want any low light ppl (looking at you fellow raters) to feel like they saw the sun… I also added the app icon (i should have added it before but I kinda forgot) which I made in Canva super easily and then imported to Icon Composer… Now I just need to make a README, publish to Testflight and I’ll be done
I implemented Shortcuts into the app! This was relatively straightforward in terms of the scope… However I really enjoyed adding this as it made the app feel “complete” as every app has shortcuts…
I implemented a live activity feature to the app. So basically now in the dynamic island it shows you a live activity from Gotcha so you can quickly capture. The same goes for the lock screen. I found it really fun to add these features in as I’ve never implemented live activities before.
I got the sharing feature to work now so you can actually do something with your recordings :) theres not much else to say here apart from now the app is basically an MVP and now i’m just gonna add nice to have features…
I made the clips editor work!!! After a lot of work and a bunch of time I managed to finally do the impossible. It genuinely was so difficult to make anything at all work such as the subtitles not working until I figured out you have to test on real device, the waveform looking weird, the app either feeling slow, laggy or jittery and the fact that the trimming logic wasn’t working. Anyways, now that I finished, I’m really happy with how it feels to use now and even more so now that I added features I wasn’t planning to add (like the volume boost feature and the dragging element feature)…
I made the tap to capture button work. The app uses up to 90MB of RAM when idle (the audio file itslef taking up up to 30MB) and it keeps a rolling 1, 2 or 3 minute buffer period. So after the time that the user sets (default 2 mins) old audio is discarded. When the suer feels they have caught a moment they wanna clip, they just open the app and press capture. Then the app saves it as a wav file. It was a bit tricky to get background audio and lock screen recording working (so that means you can have the app open in the background while you are doing something else). I also made it so when the app is out of focus it displays a huge message on the screen telling the user not to quit the app from the app switcher otherwise it won’t record. Overall I feel I made a lot of progress in this session and now I need to make the clip editor work (the part I’m dreading) and add some nice to have features…. but yeah for now the app works!
I scaffolded the UI for the project. First I initialised the Xcode project for iOS and then I made the home screen UI page. I went for a big button with a waveform inside (which doesn’t work rn). But after that it felt plain so I added like a recent clips list under it to make it more interesting and I added 2 stats as well. I also made the full Clips page and I designed the clips editor. This part took the longest cos I didnt wanna overcommit myself but I wanted to still challenge myself so I added like 5 tools that should not be tooo difficult to add. I also designed the settings page with setting that will be added and thats pretty much it :) comment (if anyone sees) if the UI looks good or not.
