An F1 OS (eventually) filled to the brim with F1 content, memes, and references!

Ship #1

I made a Formula One web-based operating system! I started this project forever ago and just never had the time to actually work on it. It is currently very simple and I wish I had the time to actually make it better, but unfortunately Stardance is coming to an end soon.

This project was built using React JS (more so Typescript than Javascript) which is a simple Javascript framework. It features three apps: notes, calculator, and terminal. It has a (static/non-movable) clock widget along with the time and date being displayed in the top-right corner.

This project wasn’t very hard to make with probably the most difficult part being deploying the project itself.

Finished (hopefully)

Devlog #3

It’s been way too long since I’ve worked on this project. I decided to make it simpler for myself so I could actually get this project shipped. This is the main reason why I decided to remove part of the topbar (it didn’t really have much purpose anyway).

I added a useable terminal filled with commands and fixed window ordering when clicking on multiple windows in any order.

That’s really it for this devlog. I’ll probably ship this project very soon.

Notes App & Clock

Devlog #2

I added a simple notes app that is heavily inspired by the Apple Notes app (right now at least). I also added an analog clock drawn through JS graphics.

Notes App

The notes app is currently very simple and only has the capability to create and edit notes (no delete functionality yet). The first line in your note determines its title and the rest is considered its content (similar to Apple Notes).

The Clock

The analog clock is drawn through simple JavaScript graphics. It is repeatedly drawn over and over again to update the clock’s hands by using the the requestAnimationFrame() function which automatically synchronizes repeated updates to the refresh rate of the user’s display.

This is taking way too long for WebOS 1. I’ll try to finish the first ship by the next devlog.

Frontend Skeleton

Devlog #1

FormulaOS, a little OS for F1 lovers.

Progress

I really just added a lot of the skeleton/components I will be using throughout this project. For example, I made a reusable window component. It currently has a full screen button working but isn’t freely resizable by the user like actual OS windows typically are.

Next Steps

  • Find a better color scheme?
    • Add wallpapers (although I might save this for later)
  • Add a bottom bar
  • Clock and maybe calendar widget(s)
  • Add more apps (I’ll decide which ones to add later)
  • F1 themed fonts?
