I'm building a trash can that eliminates human error in deciding what item can go in what bin. This will eliminate cross contamination and will be better for our planet.

Goal To finish the platform that will move the item to the classified bin. Progress I have finished the motor mount with the screws, NEMA 17 motor, and screws. I’m yet to have put the pulley idler on the other side of the exterior frame. To-do I need to add the pulley idler on the other side of the frame, so I can add a GT2 timing belt to move the platform side to side.

I fixed minor problems with the platform like the heat inserts were placed to close to each other. I ended up also having to redo the curved guide rails to be able to go above the bin. This allowed from the platform to be centered over the right bin.

I worked on adding dividers in between each trash can so that the platform links can go into the divider. This had some issues at first, but I think I got a good plan on what to do next.

I worked on adding two carriages and allowing the platform to move over the correct bin easily. I also worked on the bearings for moving the platform from the frame.

EcoSort

Goal

Making a trash can that sorts trash into the correct bins. So a banana peel would go in compost, paper goes in recycling bin, and snack wrapper goes in trash.

Status

My CAD model is about 75% done. You can see my cad files, images, and journal on my GitHub https://github.com/Onlycoder1/EcoSort/.

What I did today

I added more to my JOURNAL.md to include photos and more detailed writing.

Down below is some cad images for fun! This includes platform cads and the frame of EcoSort.

I have got most of the platform that will hold the item done. I finished the guiderails that let the panel links move smoothly. Next I have to mount the platform on linear rails.

I’ve added bearings to my platform this will allow the platform to move in these guide rails I will design later.

Today I was working on the platform that holds the item. I was able to finish this assembly. Next I need a frame to use to hold the platform and allowing it to move and drop the item. Overall today I got a lot accomplished. If there is any updates you would suggest add it in the comments. Here are some of the photos down below.

I have started this design earlier and I think by now I have spent 20 hours on it already. I forgot to log it though 😭😭. Although today I have been working on the moving platform aspect of the design and I happy to say that I accomplished this task. The top view is the linear guide rails and the grey squares are the bins. Next I have to add a platform that can drop an item.
