Unnamed Platformer - Devlog 27
WE’RE FINALLY HERE!
What I did: I did a lot of final polish and testing before getting the game ready for release. Initially I was going to use Emscripten to port my game over to web assembly (inspired by this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kiwpAIU454) but I soon realized that it was much more complex than it looked, and kind of took away from the spirit of being entirely made out of C++ and SFML. So, I decided to simply publish an executable rather than port the game over to web. I set up the release build and whatnot (which took a while because of cmake config issues and whatnot) but I finally got a release build working n it feels great! I ported to itch.io, now I just gotta finish up the itch page and readme, as well as record a walkthrough video for macOS and Linux users as I couldn’t figure out how to configure the game for either.
Challenges: The whole odyssey of deciding how to port my game over was a slight hassle, but nothing too bad. Also, while recording my walkthrough vid, I ended up discovering A LOT of hidden bugs, so I managed to pick all those off and there shouldn’t be any left…hopefully.
Plans for next time: Ship! This devlog will be my last for this project, and for this challenge. Aside from being done with everything, I accidentally created a completely new project according to Hackatime when I was renaming the file folder, executable, etc. from “WorldofBlockman” (my placeholder name) to Stardancer so everything would be more consistent with my final title. so any work I do on my project won’t count towards heartbeats and thus I can’t post another devlog (15 minutes minimum/devlog).
Still, it’s been such an amazing journey, I learned so much and I made this game that I’m super proud of 🥹 even though this game gave me hell sometimes, I have virtually no regrets about any of it. This has been my biggest project ever, and many more to come in the future hopefully.
K…bye guys.
