I have recently developed and launched Pentester, an interactive security Slack bot that aims to optimize SecOps workflow processes through direct integration within Slack. Through the use of modern technologies such as JavaScript, Node.js, and the Slack Bolt package, Pentester securely interacts in real-time with its users over Socket Mode using the WebSockets protocol. The bot works as a streamlined interactive command center that enables the user to triage target infrastructure through Shodan recon, retrieve offense syntax cheat sheets (XSS, SQLi, among others) and decode Base64-encoded cyber strings, all without leaving Slack. Through integration of these core capabilities into unique slash commands and continuous deployment of the application 24/7 using Hack Club’s Nest as a remote Linux server with the help of PM2, the project demonstrates how automation can minimize context switching and improve workflow in the SOC.
