HELLOO!!
I am here to present you my first ever finished hardware project (which I actually publish somewhere).

PlayChord: A MIDI-Chord-Player ^^

WHAT IS IT?
This hackpad is a MIDI-Input device which plays chords! But what is midi you may ask? MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is basically a middleman between your inputs and a musical plugin or DAW. This means it’s like your small desk piano, but as a hackpad.
Therefore the name: PlayChord

INSPIRATION?
YES, OF COURSE! I had a lot of inspiration from the OmniChord and the HiChord, which are both Chord-Synthesizers. The key difference between their product and my PlayChord, is that the PlayChord inputs MIDI-Signals into your Computer, which means you can use it FOR ANY INSTRUMENT (as long as you have the software for it installed somewhere).

HOW IT WAS WORKING ON IT:
I loved working on this project so much! During the first two days I had a LOT of energy and grinded through multiple hours. But the last 2-3 days, I’ve done less and less, probably also because it was mostly finished at that time.
This was actually my first time designing a PCB, and it was so much more fun than I thought, which is why I will probably do this more often. I really love hardware projects and I can’t wait to hold it in my hands :>

DEVLOG #5
READY TO SHIP!!
(Hopefully)

Today I have taken the last steps towards the finish line, I’ve created a GitHub Repo here and also worked on a readme file.
I am really happy about how it turned out.
Aaanndd I also fixed some tiny things regarding my code.
I am so happy, that I could get this done, I cant wait to hold this in my own two hands :DD

HELLO AGAIN! :3 :wave-club-penguin:
I am coming real close to the finish line!
Today, I assembled the 3D printed Case with some left-over parts I had laying around, just to see how it would fit. And it does look nice, I am really happy with it. :happy
Also, I fixed some things on the 3D Model…..
AND I ALSO WROTE THE CODE FOR THE XIAO SEED!! :yippeee:

So, now I only need to assemble the project and upload it to github. But I think about doing a 3D-Render of it, which would mean a bit more work, thats something for tomorrow tho :P

**DEVLOG #3: **
My work from yesterday actually, but I forgot to post a devlog lol.
I’ve just worked on finishing the casing.
I also 3D printed it in order to see if everything is fitting correctly, but sadly I forgot to add supports, which is why a part of the print failed.
Everything else is okay and functional.

ToDo:

  • Coding the MiDi-Controller
  • Reprint to see if the screen would fit
  • Making a nice looking 3D render (maybe)
  • Prep and upload on GitHub
  • Ship

If I lock in I can finish it today.
But as all electronics projects are, this means it will take at least another day 😭

DEVLOG #2:
HEYO!
Today I have reworked my Casing for a bit. I finally got the dimensions kinda right.
But now… IT NEEDS MORE PERSONALITY!!
Any ideas on what to add in order to make it look better, except rounding the harsh edges?
Also, the Top-Part with the XIAO SEEED needs some special attention too, as the USB C cutout removed parts of the Top Plate, so now its 0.5mm thin at that part. This means I need something there which could make it a bit thicker.

Any Ideas are highly appreciated!!

So, I created my first ever PCB (Old Screenshot btw, I added the 3D Files for the other parts but I am a too tired to take a new screenshot).
I’ve even worked a bit on the case, but I cant seem to get the Top Part of the case right, as the holes are always a bit off. Any tips?
