I started making Super Slack Sidekick with the intention of simply learning to create a API-based bot that I could use for slack, discord, etc, yet it turned into something that genuinely made an impact. One of the things I'm most proud of with SSSV2 is its ALS (disorder in which a person slowly loses their ability to walk, talk, eat, even breathe) awareness functions. Through commands like /sv-als-stats and /sv-als-research, I hope to increase awareness about the disorder and increase funding for researchers who are working very hard to find a cure (most don't last 2-5 years). Adding simple commands to dedicate the bot to ALS support was my way of giving tribute to those suffering under this terrible condition.
