This is my first puzzle game named Refracted! This is also the first time I have made a game with sprites created by my friend, so I get really excited and want to make it perfect.

The hardest challenge when making this game is basically the box. TBH, at first I wanted to make the box able to rotate in 8 directions, while the tutorials that I found on YouTube only do 4 directions. At first, I thought I could change it easily, but it turns out impossible to do. I have to admit that for doing the box thing, I have to ask Claude AI to help me make it into 8 directions, and after I changed a lot of it, it still hasn’t worked. I finally gave up on making it 8 directions, which makes it harder for me to design the level.

Another things that hard for me is making the hint. I’m actually having some story in my head about the lore, but when I made it into a hint, it just got blurred. Also, to make the player have to open all the hints in the corridor before doing the next level, I have to make a lot of conditionals, which I know. I think there are better options for doing this, but I’m still a beginner. I’m still using conditionals too much, but I finally made everything work! Also, by adding the BGM, sound effects, making the checkpoints thing, etc. There are many things that I just tried in this game!

If you want to play this game, all you need to do is rotate the boxes to refract the light into another box until it reaches the sensor. But, you also need to do it fast! because there’s a hunger bar. Since our character is a human, she needs food to keep going. So, rotate the box, eat, and find the hint about what’s going on!

I’m finally able to make the fading and checkpoint! So, after player’s hungerbar is empty, the screen will faded and player will be revived on their last checkpoint!

So, I just finished making the hunger bar recover after the player eats food in the game. It’s still a bit delayed, but I hope I can fix it. At least, it works.

I’m adding a hunger bar that decreases over time and also affects the player’s speed. Not only that, but I’m also fixing some of the bugs that appear (failing to change scenes). But for now, it works! I’ll add the audio after this, hoping that it will work well!

Atp, I just learned that making a level is hard, especially when your game is heavily focused on puzzles. I also confused with how I can make variety of level with a same mechanic

  1. I just realized my typo in this project: “censor” was supposed to be “sensor”, but at least I’m consistent, so it works nicely. 2. I’m finished making the first corridor! So, in my game, each level will be separated by a corridor, which will give a bit of a hint about the mystery. And I still have 4 other corridors to make!

For the main focus of my game (puzzle), I am finally able to create this mechanic! So you have to rotate the box to control the light
