Paws Field is finally done!!

It’s a chill little farming sim where you play as a cat, grow crops and feed the hungry cows and chickens. You can use different tools, take care of your farm and watch your crops grow.

Had a lot of fun making this and I’m happy I finally got it finished. Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Paws Field is completed

Finished up Paws Field and added the last few things like sound effects and a proper game menu. Most of the main systems are now working together, from farming and tools to animals, inventory, time and saving. It’s finally in a playable state.

Added NPC dialogue

I worked on the dialogue system so the player can now talk to NPCs through dialogue boxes and have conversations with them.
I’m also setting it up so dialogue can trigger actions in the game, like giving the player seeds to start growing crops.
This is the start of making the NPCs actually interact with the player instead of just being part of the map.

Added a tool bar at the bottom for selecting different tools.
I used a PanelContainer for the main bar and made custom themes for the normal, hover and selected states of each tool button.
Also set up the different tool slots so I can add more tools to it later without having to remake the whole thing.
Still working on getting the tools to actually do their jobs properly.

Tiny updates but a lot of stuff
Added rocks that you can mine just like the trees, and both rocks and trees now have their own mining animations.

I also added a Chicken NPC that walks around to random locations with different movement speeds.
Also added Y indexing so NPCs and objects layer properly when walking around, and made templates for adding more NPCs later so I don’t have to build everything from scratch each time.

I added collision boxes and hitboxesYou can now actually use the AXE to chop down trees which feels so cool to finally have working.
I also added a door that opens when you get close to it
It’s honestly a LOT of work because I’m learning Godot while building the game at the same time, but slowly everything is starting to work together.

What did you make?

Made WHERE ON EARTH?, a GeoGuessr-style game where you get dropped somewhere random and have to figure out where you are. You get 5 rounds, guess on the map, and get points based on how close you were.

What was challenging?

Getting all the random locations, Street View, map, scoring and game logic to actually work together There were also a LOT of random bugs.

What are you proud of?

Mostly just how it turned out. I started with a pretty basic idea and somehow ended up with an actual game. I also learned a lot while making it, especially with maps and the Haversine formula.

What should people know?

It’s single-player for now, so give it a try and see how good your geography actually is Multiplayer is probably coming later.

Finally completed the app

This one took a LOT, and I mean A LOT, of time to finish. From building the game logic and map system to fixing random bugs, tweaking the UI, and making everything actually work together…

it was definitely a journey I couldn’t get multiplayer added this time, but that’s something I’ll work on after I ship this version.

For now, I’m calling it done and shipping it

Really happy with how it turned out, especially considering how much I learned while building it.

Next stop: multiplayer

Made the core function work.

Now whenever you play, you get placed at a random location on Earth and have to guess where you are. After you guess, it tells you the distance from your guess to the actual location.

Pretty basic for now but the main thing is working.

Handy BOT

I created a Slack Bot which is Live 24/7 and replies to the commands specified in the screenshot. It was quite easy to understand how to create commands and how to use APIs to get data from other applications. I tried to organize the code as much as possible and added the features that I would have liked on a Slack Bot. The custom commands added without using the guide are:

  • /lazy-exchange - This requires 3 arguments (see the screenshot) and can convert any given amount of money from one currency to another.
  • /lazy-reminder - This requires 2 arguments and can set a reminder, pretty simple.
  • /lazy-astronomy - This command gets NASA’s APOD and shows the title, explanation and image (or video link)
