Desktop Draux is an interactable desktop pet that can play ambient music, made for Playground.

It was pretty fun to make especially with making the art and seeing the critter come to life. I also enjoyed how the ambient music feature came together.

I did have some issues with Godot’s window feature, particularly with it registering clicks and drags, but it worked out in the end somehow.

Somehow the .exe file is 100+mb… I think most of it are from the unused assets though.

Definitely pinning the program to my desktop and playing around on it on my own!

Finishing touches! I added some additional settings such as music volume and music effects. Also made the UI different from the default. I made a quick logo and itch.io image as well.

It is now coloured! Enough with the lineart, the draux now has LIFE. Speaking of life, it also now has DEATH, as you can now close the ‘program’ by right clicking and switching to and clicking the death button.

Desktop pet that runs around on the screen and plays sounds! The pet itself is one of my OCs, a draux (which is basically a cat-dragon-whatever hybrid). At this stage I have only finished the lineart however. Currently, you can drag and drop the draux, and right click on it to open an options menu where you can play various background sounds such as waves, rain, etc. The pet will always try to go towards the bottom of the screen. It can also emit small music notes when it is playing a sound (though only a few before it starts to get insanely laggy since each note is its own window).

My personal site! It has some info about me on there. I enjoyed making the colours and overall style of it. CSS was a bit annoying like usual, but I managed to get there in the end and it looks relatively okay on thinner screens.

I added some CSS and art. I also made it dynamically change size based on screen size. It was a bit tricky honestly so I just gave it way too much space so it would stop overlapping with each other :>

I wrote the content for my site, as well as some planning as to what the site’s layout will be. I think I came up with pretty much all the stuff a personal site should have… now I just have to mess with CSS to make it look pretty… not looking forward to that…

  1. I set up basic movement for the platformer, then spent an hour making a basic character sprite (eyes will come later I think). I might readjust the animation later since it still feels a bit off to me.
