HEXAPOD/SPIDER ROBOT WALKING!!
Okay so it is walking but it’s trying to break its motors. Reducing ground clearance will help as motors won’t have to work more. So will do that but as I have started working on HEXAPOD/SPIDER ROBOT 2.O! (https://stardance.hackclub.com/projects/22328) maybe I will be giving less time to this one but still I will try to make it walk properly and then I will have to control it using my transmitter (https://stardance.hackclub.com/projects/22304/devlogs/22662)

Fetched animations from blender and sucessfully got them into godot! :blender: :godot:


This is day 10 somehow and for this devlog, I definiteily got a ton of progress. I stayed up until midnight trying to figure out how to get blender animations into Godot and I finally figured it out today morning.


The reason it took so long is because the materials were not exporting properly and there was also a lot of small suff I had to fix like getting rid of blender’s unnecessary default animations and also managing the size of the item. I had to make tee animation twice because it was corrupted by size and positioning in the first one. I also made this model like a year ago and not knowing where all the files were in my computer did not help 🤦


But at the end I guess I finally did it

There is still a lot left to do like

  • Just making it look better in general
  • figuring out why the head is always the same color as the environment
  • adding character select (going to be a huge pain to add new characters)
  • outline to make it look visually appealing
  • idk blend the animations
  • also make the running jump and falling animations

I have a lot of work set out for me so please smash that like button :youtube: and also just follow while you’re here thanks :minionlaugh:

iTab DEVLOG-4!!

i haven’t posted anything in the past 3 days bc i was cooking up smth big:flame: , ive done so much to this project so far and i can say we’re halfway through it, here is everything i’ve done in the past 3 days:

Made screw holes for the bracket to screw to the iPad frame:

Since the tablet’s bracket was just sitting lose on the frame, i made some screw holes in frame out of (i kid you not) sim cards plastic placeholders:holymoly: , sounds weird ik but it works and sticks to metal very well since its just thick plastic, plus it elevated the bracket just enough to make it sit flush with the frame:blowme:

Added USB-C!!!

Now THIS is a big one, i sourced a USB-C breakout board from a local repair shop, i was planning on going through the lengthy process of using a full Type-C port and adding resistors to the CC pins and shi, but i got lucky:yay2: , i used superglue and hot glue to secure it in place and it suprisingly looks very good!!

Wired all the I/O

Power button, vol buttons, headphone jack, and Type-C connector, i soldered wires directly to them and routed them with electical tape, i also commoned all ground to the metal chasis:smarty:

Made a removable connector for the I/O!!

in addition to wiring and routing I/O, i couldn’t just solder everything together since i know DAMN WELL i something will break and i’d find myself reslodering wires same (if not less) thickness than my hair, so i used a ZIF connector (or whatever it’s called) i pulled from a dead laptop to connect both sides, and i had to solder BOTH sides with of the connector with horrible lighting AND with a $3 iron i had since 2023 AND WITHOUT a microscope:wowsers: , let that sink in..

other than that i made a few minor improvments like adding a placebo camera lens for looks (since i’m NOT rewiring the camera from center to side without a microscope) and also made sure everything is routed neatly, i used specifically wires from old headphones since they were thin and insulated.

Anyways that’s all for today!, i’d say we’re 50-55% through the project, byt he end of this week we will hopefully have finished it, i’ve also noticed this project going viral! thanks for all the support, and until next time, stay goated gng✌

Devlog 5: We Got the Energy!!!!⚡️⚡️⚡️

Alr I didnt spend too long but this is kind of a big update visually
After seeing the love from you guys i thought you might wanna see this…

Im writing this so early also because im gonna be gone on a trip for a couple days.

So below in the image as you can see i added kind of a beetle winged solar panel system.

I call it beetle style cause it can like transform into…

  1. Big expanded wings like a beetle or…
  2. it can also close in to protect it self or to make itself compact

What I did besides that?

Basically i added solar panels (⚡️) and a frame to to hold the solar panels

I also did some reasearch and planning for an assistant drone, kinda like ingenuity helping perserverence out.

Having eyes from above is very usefull in a world like mars

Next?

  • We need 3rd person view for Rover X
  • Then we can work on the controls for the drivers seat.
  • I also have plans for maybe animating it. Mb blender or smth like that
  • I might also add a way to compress the rovor so it is easy to send to space and then is decompresses on its own

P.S Comment if i should change the solar panels layout or smth

Devlog 4: Reinforced Steel seats, and a lot of PAIN

For some reason fusion has defaults everything to steel so at first the seats looked like complete steel.

I tried using form so it didnt look like a brick

Ig it kinda worked …

but I still had to do something about the steel so i changed the steel look to fabric and i experienced metal chain mail at 2 fps and infinite lag. Thats the best way i can explain it. 😆

What i really did?

First of all Big shoutout to:

Remember in my last devlog when i said enter doesnt work.

I forgot to say shift enter doesnt work either. But that was old news. The hack club officials fixed that issue. Shift enter used to only work on chrome or windows or linux. but not mac. But now i think it works on any device

(To summarize, he reminded me of shift enter and then i did it now and it worked)

i dont really understand it to be honest

But still Shift enter is kinda annoying

Alright lets dive back in!

So basically after 8 hours of painfull fusion editing i made the bench and seats it still looks awfully ugly though. and i dont even know why something that looks so simple took 8 hours of my life. i swear ive had to restart the form like 50 times! because fusion dosent have a tool to edit an existing form (im pretty sure 😄 )

Next?

I need to work on shortening devlogs, fr though

Besides that we need the energy!!!! ⚡️

….

For the rover of course, Im not sure if i should do nuclear, solar, or both. Cause the perserverance uses some extremley complicated type of nuclear energy but its assistant the ingenuity helicoptor uses solar…

Along with that we work on driving system and controls

Over the past few days, I built and launched Pygame Code Inspector, an automated static analysis web app that checks Pygame scripts for common bugs, bad practices, and performance bottlenecks—all without needing to run the code. Using Python’s built-in ast (Abstract Syntax Tree) module, the backend parses source code in real time to catch missing setup/teardown calls (pygame.init() / pygame.quit()), unmonitored game loops, uncapped frame rates, hardcoded resolutions, unused memory assets, and missing error handling. It aggregates these checks into a clean 0–100 health score and assigns an overall letter grade (A through F).Once the core inspector logic was solid, I built an interactive frontend using Streamlit so users can paste their code directly into the browser for instant feedback. After setting up open-source documentation under an MIT License, I pushed the repository to GitHub and deployed it live via Streamlit Cloud. Navigating server-side requirements and case-sensitive imports on Linux was a great learning experience, but seeing the app live on the web and giving instant feedback on real Pygame code made it completely worth it!

NeoCade Devlog #1: Intro and implemented pong game

The aim of this project is to create an arcade website with many arcade games available to play in your own browser. Here are the changes i made in this session

Change 1:

I set up my environment on vscode and set up a github repo. This didn’t take too long

Change 2:

I coded a full pong game into the website. THis is just the initial stages and i just wanted to start somewhere. The pong game is a singleplayer game (for now) where you play against a computer and there’s a scoreboard tracking your scores. It wasn’t too challenging except perhaps coding the computer engine to play against you but I managed to figure that out. Here is how i built the computer that plays against you:

I wrote a simple engine that tracks the ball’s Y-coordinate. If the ball is above the paddle, the paddle moves up; if it’s below, it moves down. But there was a problem, if the paddle could keep up with the ball, it would never lose so i made it such that the speed of the ball is slightly higher than that of the paddle, meaning it is still possible for it to lose.

Next steps:

Since pong is finished and is playable, my next goal is building the actual NeoCade ui and adding this game into the menu

I’ve added a bot! The main point of this was to link the new file I made (bot.py) to main.py. The bot currently just chooses moves based off of what would result in the best material difference between white (player) and black (bot). It calculates these moves with a depth of 4. Since the main point wasn’t to actually make a bot in one go the bot isn’t very good currently. However I still added alpha beta pruning. Alpha beta pruning works by storing the best guaranteed outcome for you (alpha) and the best guaranteed outcome for the opponent (beta). Whenever it finds a path where the opponent can force a move that is worse than the alpha, it immediately stops going down that path. The same happens for beta. I also removed some duplicated code in main.py and fixed the undo and redo move logic as I forgot to check if it still worked properly after switching from tkinter to pygame. Currently you can only tap the buttons and but can’t hold to go back multiple moves. Undoing and redoing moves with a bot was a bit confusing for me and so I decided to make it so that when undoing and redoing there is 3 seconds before the bot moves. During these 3 seconds you can go forwards or backwards to reset the timer. I used threading so that the bot starts to calculate what move it would make at the same time as the 3 seconds are passing. This means that if you decide to stay on the turn you don’t need to wait as long. I also blurred the background of the the promotion GUI so that it is grabs the players attention. Next I am going to try and add a better bot by assigning each possible move a score that is based off of the squares it controls, offensive and defensive opportunities and potentials for forks (when 2 pieces are being attacked by 1 piece so only one piece can move out of danger).

here’s an update on what the robot has been doing! i haven’t been working much on the driving part, so my teammates did a majority of figuring out how to navigate the course and how to drive. our robot was able to make it over the hill (but it flipped over if you watch the video lol). i am still working on the intake, but i have gotten further by printing out some pulleys and some shaft to bearing attachments we might use on the robot. tomorrow we will hopefully order sheet metal to hold our intake system. also, one of our prints turned into a blob

WORKING AIR DEFENCE + ATTACK HELICOPTERS

So we got working air defence turrets with some predictive aiming, and attack helicopters that shoot missiles at random buildings.

Although you’re unlikely to get 3 attack helicopters at once… for now.

The helicopters blades do spin, they bob up and down, they go towards buildings. They shoot out these missiles, which pathfind their way to the targetted building.

They all have a healthsystem which means that the turrets do some damage on collisions only though, one turret might take a while but two (or the 7 you see below) will MOW them down.

Still have to hook it all up to the Finance Manager, Special Building placement and other boring stuff, but…

I need more IDEAS!! (read this thx)

…for more Military stuff that can be added. Tank wars? Who knows. I was thinking of a military invasion as being one of the rare events which spawns like 10 missiles and 5 attack helicopters and maybe a B2 bomber or some stuff. I also need more allied options, maybe I’ll add like an anti-bomb turret that is specifically for the B2 bomber or something and does 100000 damage. Or maybe your own airbase that spawns an allied helicopter and now you have dogwars. or maybe your own plane. idk

So yes @Adam_Lotfalla this is what the helicopter was for.

Yay more things to worry about!!!

Still have integrations left! I’ll see you (hopefully) tomorrow once that’s done. but its midnight now so goodbye.

Devlog 3: Ik I have been slacking around a bit but there is a reason…

Ive been trying to put my robotic arm on the rover but I dont know where…
I tried the Roof but then it looked like Dr. Otto Octavius from Spiderman.

So then I ended up googling up rover arm pictures on google for 30 minutes and then eventually decided I should put it on the side of the rover and now it looks like some Alien Skinny Arm with steel spheres.

What Happened?

I ended up fighting with fusion and my Intel Mac’s extreme tantrums and finally after a couple breaks (Not for me for fusion) I added the robot arm.

IDK how it took me 5 hours but I can tell you those 5 hours were incredibly painful

And then I come to write this devlog and the popup window says pls write this yourself.

Im like I do but it’s not my fault the text editor doesn’t let me enter. So I always have to write my thing in notes.

Next?

Im taking a break from the robot arm and im gonna go into the seats

Im thinking of a bench at the back and maybe 2 pilot/copilot seats that rotate. Then ill work on the housing for the solar panels, and housing for the engine, brain, and other rover components

If you guys have any ideas please feel free to type. Im absoulutley confused on what I should do with the robot arm.

This isn’t really based on any existing rover im just making my own design of one. Maybe I might make it so I can 3d print it

If you guys have any ideas please feel free to type. Im in that one long very confusing state most people have with their own projects.

Its in the state where everything feels uncertain and confusing.

This isn’t really based on any existing rover im just making my own design of one. Maybe I might make it so I can 3d print it

Next?

Now that im done with the base frame im gonna add a robotic arm thing and seats.

If you guys have any ideas please feel free to type. Im in that one long very confusing state most people have with their own projects.

Its in the state where everything feels uncertain and confusing.
