So I officially have 6 commands live and running 24/7 on Hack Club Nest! Right now, the lineup is: /locked-in-bot-ping, /locked-in-bot-help, /locked-in-bot-joke, /locked-in-bot-coinflip, /locked-in-bot-8-ball, and /locked-in-bot-dice. To be real, when I started this Stardance mission, I had no clue what kind of commands people actually put on a Slack bot. Because of that, my feature list is honestly just a bunch of funny random stuff. Need a completely custom 37-sided die rolled? I got you. Need a magic 8-ball to decide what you’re eating for lunch? Done. Getting here was a straight-up battle, though. I ran into so many annoying errors. I had to fight with Git branches changing names on me, handle file merge conflicts on the remote server, and completely scrap code when external APIs kept breaking. [1]But after a ton of troubleshooting, switching between terminals, and forcing Nest to restart the background service, everything is finally working perfectly. To be completely honest, I’m still not 100% confident in what I’m doing yet. But I really want to get more practice by adding more commands to this thing. I’d love to get some feedback or feature ideas on what to build next—even if it’s just telling me what kind of tools you’d actually use or trying out the bot to see if you can break it! I’m hoping to move past the funny randomizers soon and build some actually useful productivity tools next.
