I finally kicked off my project, AutoTidy Pro, and got the first stable version running! For a long time, I was tired of the absolute mess in my Downloads folder. Everything from installers and random images to documents and Python scripts was just sitting in one giant pile, so I decided to automate the cleanup.I built a Python script that scans the entire folder and instantly categorizes files into dedicated subfolders like Images, Documents, Archives, or Installers based on their extensions. Anything the script doesn’t recognize goes into a safe fallback folder called “Other”.One of the biggest things I had to figure out was making sure the script doesn’t accidentally overwrite files with identical names. To solve this, the program automatically appends a counter to duplicate filenames so nothing gets lost. I also implemented a full Undo system that logs everything into a local JSON file. If you change your mind after running the script, it reads the history and puts every single file back exactly where it came from. The current CLI menu works great, but having the console window pop up every time is a bit clunky, and keeping the history log file right there in the open isn’t very clean. For my next devlog, I’m planning to overhaul this completely—hiding the logs in system configuration folders and moving the entire app into the system tray so it runs smoothly in the background.
