StarryTab: a lightweight, Dead simple, new tab page built with HTML+CSS+JS.

*StarryTab is a free open-source new tab webpage project that offers a very fast and lightweight experience with zero interruptions, no ads, no widgets, no unnecessary bloat, just a search bar and you.

Features:

1- a two-step initial setup: you choose your favorite search engine (or set a custom one), set a favorite color, and you're ready!

2- NASA's photo of the day: fetches the image using the free API, stores the image in local storage (to avoid too many API requests), and displays it as a background in a smooth fade-in animation, every time a new image is released, the old image is deleted from storage and the new one downloads automatically!

3- glow and shadows using css: once you input your favorite color, that color appears as a subtle shadow around the search bar, and also as a glow surrounding your cursor when hovering over a search history entry!

4- search history: not revolutionary but works i guess 👀

AI (specifically Anthropic's Claude) was used for debugging and fixing problems, i'd estimate that around ~10% of the code was written using it, i made sure my code stayed as original as possible, and i'm happy i've learnt a lot with this journey!

it’s DEVLOG TIMEEE!!! This is a big one!, i’m finally able to show some screenshots this time, suprisingly i got the api to work first time, it stays on a grey wallpaper before fetching the background and when it does it does it in a fade in animation, the first time setup goes smoothly so far but after it it just gets stuck in a loop, i’m still tryna figure out what the culprit could be, after that i’ll test all functionality and add some more css, until then stay goated gng ✌

DEVLOG TIMEE!!! after realising that react is too hard i completely ditched it, i had to refine the code to work without it (wasnt that hard suprisingly), also added search suggestions using duckduckgo and search history, still need to make the css and some files to interact with nasa’s api, so until then i’ll keep y’all updated👀, stay goated gng🙏✌

SEMI-DEVLOG TIMEE!!, you know how when you open a website that needs you to set your own prefernces like cookies or settings?, well i implemented a similar system here that stores your prefrences locally on your browser, it was very easy to implement, hence why it took me only 17 mins! anyways stay goated gng✌

water's dorm!, My very first personal website using HTML+CSS!!!

After watching over 4 hours of tutorials on youtube and trial and error, i'm able to present to you water's dorm!, a website all about me, designed by me!:D.

This website is truly my first serious website project, i utilised HTML and CSS when building it and it features:

1. Nice fonts fetched directly from google fonts.
2. Floating island bar with links to sections of the website.
3. A social media section with all the social medias and ways you can contact me with
4. A cool gradient with a vector .SVG background

This may not sound too impressive but i'm really happy with how it turned out, espaciallly as a first project!.

It's also worth mentioning that AI (Specifically Claude) contributed to about ~10% of the code, i only used it for fixing problems and debugging, as much as i didn't want to use AI, as a beginner, it's hard to pass on a free personal assistant that can debug your code and find problems, it's a little lazy but i hope to get better at coding on my own and not rely on AI at all in the near future, i also put a lot of effort into this website and it shatters my heart when people call it AI slop.

I really hope y'all like this. Again, it's not much, but i'm really happy with how it turned out, Hope y'all rate this well!

Byee :P
